A Registered Design protects the outline or shape of a design you have developed. To be registered your design must comply with a number of elements: 

1. The design must be new. Therefore the design must not have already been developed or released on  the marketplace anywhere in the world.

2. The design must be distinctive. A design is considered distinctive if it is not substantially similar to any other design. 

The registration of a design in Australia can last a maximum of 10 years.
