INTERNATIONAL TRADEMARK When looking to register your international trademark there are several options, the most common of which are outlined below. To find out further information about international trademarks, please visit our associated international trademark site at: INTERNATIONALTRADEMARKS. Option 1. A single International Trademark application We are able to make a single trade mark application in a number of countries through an international trademark agreement known as the "Madrid Protocol". A Madrid trademark application can be made in one or more of the 70 countries who are members to the protocol. Australia has been a member of the Madrid Protocol since July 2001 and other members include the UK, USA and China. To find out more about Madrid trade marks contact us at MacMillan Trademarks.
Option 2. Individual trademark registration in other countries The alternative to a Madrid Protocol application is to file individual applications in each country you are seeking a trademark. For trademarks in countries that are not a member of the Madrid Protocol, this is the only option to obtain a trademark. There are a range of reasons why individual applications in each country may be beneficial and the requirements and costs of each country are different, so to find out more and receive an idea of costs contact us at MacMillan Trademarks.
Option 3. Community Trade Mark Application A Community Trademark Application is a single application which covers all countries of the European Union. Community Trade Marks are administered through a central office located in Spain and again there are several advantages and disadvantages of filing a Community Trademark. For a complete list of countries, a quote or to help decide if this is the best option for you, contact us at MacMillan Trademarks.
